We believe that participating in events is an important part of our training and development as cadets. The training year has been filled with opportunities for us to develop our skills, learn from experiences, and grow as a team. Below is a list of the events we have participated in during the 2023-2024 training year.

FTX Dirty Dragoons

Date: September 29 - October 01

Time: drop off @ 0600 | pickup @ 1600

Location: Drop off at LHQ | Exercise at Pelican Cove

Cadets will participate in a No Stone Left Alone Memorial Foundation ceremony that is livestreamed nationally on Global News starting at 1030 am MDT.

Soccer Match

A friendly competition...

ADA Sports Day

Date: October 14

Time: drop off @ 0830 | pickup @ 1600

Location: Gold Bar Park

Cadets will participate in a Area Discretionary Activity (ADA) Sports Day with cadets from 3 other cadet units. The day will consist of a Sports Tabloid event and several sports games (soccer, handball, kickball, basketball, volleyball, gaga ball)

Visit to Strathcona Mounted Troop

Date: October 21

Original Time: drop off @ 0900 | pickup @ 1600

NEW Time: drop off @ 1400 | pickup @ 1600

Due to operational requirement, the visit hours had to be shortened. Parents are welcome to stay and participate in the tour.

Location: CFB Edmonton Saddle Club [Edmonton Garrison Map]

Cadets will participate in a Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Familiarization activity with the Strathcona Mounted Troop (check out their website here: https://www.strathconas.ca/strathcona-mounted-troop)

Dress for the weather, bring a day pack & a water bottle!

Stage II - Zone Competition

Biathlon Competition

Date: October 28

Time: drop off @ 0830 | pickup @ 1600

Location: Edmonton Nordic Biathlon Center [10980 - 17th ST NW]

Our biathletes will participate in the Stage II Biathlon Zone Competition. Good luck to our athletes - we wish them the best!

Note: Only selected biathletes may participate in the competition.

A personal act of remembrance...

No Stone Left Alone

Date: November 02

Time: drop off @ 0930 | pickup @ 1200

Location: Beechmount Cemetery [12420 104 St NW]

Cadets will participate in a No Stone Left Alone Memorial Foundation ceremony that is livestreamed nationally on Global News starting at 1030 am MDT.

An annual campaign to raise funds...

Poppy Day

Date: November 04

Original Time: drop off @ 0830 | pickup @ 1200

Location: Norwood Legion (11150 82 St)

Cadets will participate in the annual poppy campaign conducted by local Legion Branches. Norwood Legion Branch #178 supports 2051 19th Alberta Dragoons in part through the poppy fund.

 

Cadets are to wear their FULL DRESS UNIFORM with toques, black gloves, and cadet parka.

TWO Remembrance Ceremonies

Remembrance Day

Date: November 11

Time: drop off @ 0830 | pickup @ 1200

Cadets will participate in a Remembrance Day ceremony.

Cadets will need to sign up to only one of the two ceremonies.

Location #1:
Holy Trinity Church/Light Horse Park

Location #2:
Norwood Legion

Cadets are to wear their FULL DRESS UNIFORM with toques, black gloves, and cadet parka.

Holy Trinity Church/Light Horse Park

Drop off is at Holy Trinity Anglican Church (10037 84 Ave). There will be a service, followed by a March Past to Light Horse Park (10324 85 Ave) for the Remembrance Ceremony.

Norwood Legion

Ceremony is held at Norwood Legion, followed by a lunch hosted by the Norwood Legion (11150 82 St).

Oil Kings vs. Saskatoon Blades

Oil Kings Cadet Appreciation Night

Date: January 21

Time: drop off @ 1400 | pickup approx. @ 1800

Location: Rogers Place (10214 104 Ave)

Cadets are invited to attend an Oil Kings hockey game in appreciation for cadets in Edmonton and surrounding area.

Ticket sales is now closed. Thank you to everyone that purchased, tickets are anticipated to be distributed starting January 11th.

​

A big thank you to the 2051 Dragoons Parent Committee for sponsoring half the cost of the tickets for cadets and staff of 2051 Dragoons!

 

Cadets are to wear their FULL DRESS UNIFORM.

A visit with our affiliated unit...

Cadet Visit to SALH Lines

Date: January 24

Time: drop off @ 1900 | pickup @ 2100

Location: Brigadier James Curry Jefferson Armoury [11630, 109th Street]

Cadets will participate in a visit to the South Alberta Light Horse regimental lines. The SALH have a great programmed prepared for our visit!

We will be joined by cadets from 3053 army cadet corps and 3051 army cadet corps.

In case of emergency...

Standard First Aid Training

Date: February 24 & February 25

Time: drop off @ 0800* | pickup @ 1600
*Note the time change from 0900*

Location: LHQ

Cadets will participate in a course on standard first aid at the local headquarters (LHQ). Upon completion and passing the course, cadets will be first aid certified and will receive their Standard First Aid certificate.

Lunch is not provided, please remember to bring a lunch.

Do you know how to survive in the cold?

FTX Cold Dragoons

Date: March 16, 2024

Time: drop off @ 0900 | pickup @ 1600

Location: Rundle Park - Picnic Site #6

Cadets will participate in a Cold Weather field training exercise (FTX) where they will learn and put to practice winter survival skills. Cadets will also participate in snowshoeing and toboggan pulling/pushing activities, should snow conditions permit.

 

Cadets are to dress appropriately for the weather!

Date: February 03 to 04

The athletes will showcase their skiing and marksmanship skills and compete against talented youth from all over the province.

An evening training with the SALH...

SALH Map & Compass

Date: April 17, 2024

Time: drop off @ 1845 | pickup @ 2100

Location: Jefferson Armoury (11630 109 St NW)

Cadets are invited to participate in a Map & Compass themed visit on April 17th. The plan consists of a classroom portion for learning map and compass orienteering, then an outdoor practical lesson.

If time permits, cadets will be given a tour of the SALH vehicles.

FTX Wandering Dragoons

Date: April 20, 2024

Time: drop off @ 0900 | pickup @ 1600

Location: Elk Island Park

Cadets will participate in a hiking/trekking field training exercise (FTX) where they will learn and put to practice hiking and navigation skills.

 

Cadets are to dress appropriately for the weather!
