In Person vs Virtual Training

Due to the new COVID-19 restrictions, there will be limited number of cadets able to attend in-person training on Thursday nights. Cadets will be encouraged to attend virtually were resources allow. Here are some points to consider when deciding on your choice:

  • All training will be modified to allow for the same quality of training regardless of in-person or virtual attendance. This will include pre-planned lessons that will be shared in a virtual setting both for in-person attendees and virtual attendees.

  • Senior cadets/instructors will require additional training on how to instruct in a blended environment and have lessons completed a minimum of 2 days prior to scheduled lesson to ensure quality of instruction. Time is available for senior cadets to book use of LHQ laptop for lesson prep and assistance on Tuesdays. Instructors not able to meet these requirements will be assigned other tasks suitable to their rank.

  • Skills based activities will require training packages to be picked up each quarter by virtual cadets.

  • The instructor may be virtual or in person.

  • Classes will be reduced to 2 periods 45 minutes long each week.

  • There are no opening or closing parades.

  • Cadets will wear FTUs for all training.

  • Maximum in-person attendance on Thursdays is 6 cadets per star level. Cadets will be seated 6ft away from each other and required to assist with cleaning after classes.

  • Cadets will be required to wear a mask the whole time, sanitize and complete COVID screening prior to admittance. Doors will open 15 minutes prior to the start of training to limit the amount of socializing. Virtual admittance will open at the same time.

  • Field training and other one day activities will be modified to allow for smaller group training. There will be no overnight activities. Cadets will need to arrange their own transportation to and from activities. Activities will take place outdoors where possible. Cadets that still prefer to attend these virtually will have the option to do so but will require access to video.

  • Parents will not be allowed in the LHQ building on Thursday nights unless they have an appointment.

  • There is no advantage given to cadets that attend in-person vs virtually when it comes to completion of star level, assignment of leadership opportunities or promotions. The only advantage is based on active participation in activities, regardless of format.
